Living a Cricketer’s Ultimate Dream
Gordon's juniors at SCG for opening day.
On 3rd January, nineteen North Shore cricketers from the Chatswood in2CRICKET Centre at Beauchamp Park got the chance to live every boy’s dream, to play cricket on the SCG on the first day of a Test Match in front of 38,000 people. The Centre at Beauchamp Park is the entry point into the Gordon District Cricket Club’s junior development programme.
The boys aged between 6 and 9 years old and with their parents attended the first day of the Australia versus South Africa Test Match, to participate in the Cricket Australia luncheon entertainment during each day of the Test. The attached photo shows the boys at the SCG.
On a day where the Australian batsmen struggled to score runs, this was clearly not a problem for the Gordon cricketers as Andrew Larkey, one of the coaches on the day, explains “The Boys all got a bat, and most of them were hitting boundaries regularly, with some big hits recorded. It was a fantastic day.”
Who knows in the future one of these young players might one day play for Australia.
