U13/14 Thunder – Round 8 vs Lane Cove Marsh
Thunder Strikes In Two Dayer
We were playing a two-day game against older boys in our competition. We were all excited to play a two-day game for the first time although 60 overs in a day sounded like a lot.
On day one, Lane Cove won the toss and they decided to put us into bat. Harper did well opening but the star of our innings by far was Josh. He batted really well and he held our innings together all morning. He took a while to get going (good concentrating) but in last few overs he started smashing 4s and ended up on 81 not out. The whole team was really excited for Josh. I organised a guard of honour and I carried Josh through it (See photo).
At the end of the 60 overs, we finished on 9 for 241 which was a pretty good score. Our coach Paul was really pleased we batted all the way through 60 overs.
The next Sunday it was out turn to bowl. Our aim was to bowl them out or stop from scoring 242.
Our bowling and fielding was really good – possibly the best team effort all season. Olly bowled really well taking two early wickets. Roy, Josh and Declan also bowled well. As did the whole team. Sammy took a good catch in the deep looking into the sun.
One player in their team batted really well until Josh got him out. That wicket changed the whole game. We ended up bowling them out for 195 and winning on first innings.
Then we went into bat again for six overs to complete the 60 overs for the day. We just T20’d it with Aadit and Jed opening and hitting 4s. It was fun.
It was a good two-day game match. Credit to Josh for 81 runs and Roy for 3 wickets. Also to Harper for being wicket keeper for about 30 overs.
I think this was a really good team effort by every player against boys who were older and bigger.
