Middle Order Strikes Back
A middle order fight back and a superb bowling effort fired the U12 Reds to a comfortable victory on Saturday.
Gordon won the toss and decided to bat at Artarmon Reserve. Openers Tom Hampson and Angus Chitty looked very much at ease until Hampson got a straight one that rattled his stumps with the score on just seven.
Henry Howard, left and Tim Perry were rewarded for their outstanding performances
Brae Mason was next in and he got the scoring going with this trademark aggression as he built a good partnership with Chitty. The Reds were looking in control but Chitty nibbled at a good delivery and was caught behind. Finn Mclay was promoted up the order and was unlucky as he tried to push the run rate and was bowled.
The U12 Gordon Reds were in fine form to record another solid win
The Reds were now 3 for 35 and in a little trouble against some straight bowling from Lindfield. It got worse when Mason was caught and the Red innings was wobbling at 4 for 46.
But it was now time for the middle order to fight back. The inform Charlie Bibb came to the crease and started cracking the bowling all over the ground. He received excellent support from the unusually restrained Henry Howard and eager Tom Brown.
Charlie Bibb top scored as the middle order piled on the runs
Bibb punished the bowling and retired on 31 not out. Brown compiled 21 not out and Howard chipped in with 10.
The lower order struggled until Tim Perry had a go and put on 13.
The Reds finished on 9 for 142 at the end of 32 overs.
The Gordon bowlers got stuck into the Lindfield team straight away. Wickets tumbled as the Reds bowled at the stumps and fielded tightly. It wasn’t long before Lindfield was 9 for 31. A late rally by the last pair saw the visitors reach 60 before Tom Hampson took the final wicket.
Hampson was outstanding with the ball take three wickets and not conceding a run! His figures were 3 for 0 from 3.1 overs.
Tom Brown, Nate Calman, Lachlan Irving and Henry Howard all took one wicket each as all the Gordon bowlers performed well.
There were good run outs by Irving and the always accurate Ned Vandermark.
In the end it was a solid team performance especially in the field. Henry Howard received the Personal Best award for his controlled batting and his best bowling effort of the season.
The energetic Tim Perry was the Good Sportsman of the game for his unbridled enthusiasm in the field.
We’d like to thank Lindfield McCabe for the game and we wish them all the best for the rest of the season.
Next Saturday, the Reds take on Lane Cove Chappell at Blackman 2 in a Twenty 20.
Go the might Gordon Reds!
