U12 Green - Round 8 vs Mosman Silver

Greens Grow in Spirited Display

The Primrose ground with its short end boundaries is never very conducive to a good game of cricket but in fairness the new wicket was nice to play on.

We lost the toss and Mosman put us in to bat. Raymond Su and Daniel Hall were rostered off and we needed others to stand up and make some runs on the board for us.

Hugh Wood, 5 runs, and Angus Levy, 4 runs, opened with determination and got us off to a modest but solid start.

Next up our in-form all rounder, Ollie Clarke, put his head down and built a very intelligent 32. On the way, Ollie contributed to a half century partnership with Nick Moore, who got 29 before being caught. Nick collected a solidly hit 6 in his total. James Dow, 11 runs, was our only other notable run-getter and we finished with a very hard to defend 89 runs.

Too many no-balls and wides did not help our effort to hold-off a steady accumulation of runs by Mosman.

In what were choppy seas, not stormy waters, our boat was just a bit too small and it developed too many leaks and unfortunately it sank in the 17th over.

There were moments in the field but too few. Max O’Loughlin took a nice catch at mid-off. Daniel Hall’s opening bowling stint offered two early chances that could have turned the game. Nick Moore, 0 for 6, and Ollie Clarke, 0 for 1, bowled fast and accurately.

On a hot and testing day, it was pleasing that our pre-match team chat resulted in a very composed performance by our players, despite the result.

In the field, we minimised the “too many captains” chatter and we were respectful of other players and the match officials.

We’ve had a few losses this season but we’re determined to retain our dignity and keep the spirit of cricket alive.
