U11 Reds - Round 12 vs Lane Cove Smith

Red Batsmen Face Tough Test

Gordon won the toss and decided to bowl hoping the wet grass in the outfield might limit Lane Cove's scoring.Lane Cove held out the Gordon attack for the first 15 overs but found scoring difficult against some accurate bowling and impressive fielding.

U11 Reds always love to have fun playing cricket

Nick Tressos bowled some good spin and was difficult to get away. Jay Newman was in great form in the outfield, hitting the stumps a couple of times from the deep, with the batsman scrambling home. Mangesh Dashputre and Nick were very tidy behind the stumps.

Tom Brayshaw was unlucky not to hold onto a difficult catch in the outfield, throwing himself after the ball (David Warner style) and landing hard on his chin. Gordon claimed two scalps, the first a sharp catch taken by Mangesh off Pranav’s bowling, and the second a nifty run out on the last ball of the innings.
Andrew Nash and Matthew Barrett discuss the finer points of cricket

Lane Cove managed a credible 121 with some tight bowling and the slow outfield keeping the score down.

Gordon got off to a solid start in their innings with Andrew Nash standing rock solid at one end for nearly 10 overs before falling to a sharp catch. Lane Cove bowled well and Gordon toiled hard to put runs on the board.

Mangesh and Pranav managed to hold the bowlers at bay for a time but a steady stream of wickets left Gordon short of their target at the end of the innings.

Man of the match was Mangesh Dashputre for a strong all-round performance in batting, bowling and fielding. And the team gave a resounding three cheers for Milan who did a great job stepping in to the big shoes of Mike Smith.
