This philosophy and our dedication to fair play has paid dividends with the Gordon Juniors going into the Christmas break on top of the NSJCA club championship.
Last weekend saw the T20 round for most teams and all our players performed with great enthusiasm.
Our U9s should all be highly commended for trying their best yet again and showing the right way to play. The club’s future looks bright with these enthusiastic players having so much fun.
When it came to the results there were last ball wins for U14 Blues, U12 Reds and U11 Reds. The U13 Reds weren’t so lucky on the last ball. Such is the unpredictable joy of T20!
The U14 Blues had an amazing last over. Chasing 95, they needed one run to win with three balls to go. They then lost a batsman bowled and a batsman LBW. Two balls, two wickets. They then needed a run from the last ball, which they did and won the game. The Blues chased 95 to win against Ryde Hunters Hill.
Another last ball thriller saw the U12 Reds get home. The Reds were chasing 87 for victory in their T20 game. Needing one from the final ball, number 11 batsmen Ned Vandermark stood tall to smack a four for victory. (See match report). A great team win for all the players.
It was a similar team effort with the U11 Reds. The Gordon boys were set 85 to win in their T20. With nine wickets down, they needed one run to win from the last ball of the game. Up stepped Ned Fryar to score the run and win the game. (See match report).
It was a different T20 result from the final over for out U13 Reds. Defending 100, the Reds couldn’t hang on in the field with their opponents scoring the winning runs on the second last ball of the game.
In the U16/17s, our Reds recorded a comfortable T20 victory over Mosman. Charlie Stobbo hit 36 not out and Nicholas Avramides 32 not out as the Reds rattled up 139 from their 20 overs. The Red bowlers dismissed Mosman for 82 with Jonathon Hain picking up 3 for 5 from just nine balls!
In the same division, our Gold team won a 32 over match. They reached the winning target of 127 in the 30th over. Alexander Irvine starred with the bat scoring 45 not out. Earlier, Thomas Slack picked up 3 for 32 from six overs.
In the U14/15 competition, the Gordon Blacks eased to victory in a T20 against Lane Cove. Set 106 to win, the Blacks passed the total in the 16th over.
Elsewhere in the U12s, there was plenty of good spirit as our excellent players from the Blue and Green team went head to head. The Blues got home over the Greens in a close one when they reached their victory target of 99. (See match report).
In the U9s, our Red boys showed great spirit as they won again making seven wins from eight games.
The enthusiastic U9 Greens were also in fine form in the match. (See match report).
Our White team had a ball and our Blues continue to get better and better (See match report).
We now go into the Christmas break full of cheer.
We look forward to getting back on the field in late January for more fantastic cricket fun.
