Round 10: Gordon Gold 1/68 v Lane Cove Clarke 8/65
Being back at “Headquarters” (Naremburn Lower) seemed to bring out the best in the Golds’ as they were really at the top of their game on Saturday. Following an excellent training session they were primed for a tough battle with the inform Lane Cove Clarke. Captain Mitch struck the first blow when he called correctly and sent Clarke into bat.
Our bowling was first class as over after over was defended grimly by the batsmen and the figures show it. Charlie 0/6, Callum 0/9 Jae 0/2 Henry 0/5 James 0/4, Cam 0/2 and Mitch 0/9 were relentless in the pressure they placed on the batsmen. Eventually a break had to come and it was Alex bowling an excellent line and length who achieved a double break and finished with 2/3. Hamish showing no ill effects of his week away grabbed 1/8, with a good mix of pace and swing and the always reliable Jack 1 for 4 and Jonas 1/0 were rewarded for their hard toil.
A real highlight though was the ground fielding which was almost flawless. Cameron started things when he fired in a missile for a direct hit run out which brought the crowd alive. Alex responded with two beautiful pick up and throws which both hit the stumps and found the batsmen short of their ground. Three run outs in an innings what a bonus, what a reward!!!! This great all round effort limited Clarke to 8/65 off their 24 overs a very gettable target.
Clarke struck early when captain Mitch was knocked over. This brought Jonas (27 retired) and Jack (25 retired) together and after both survived an early chance they combined in a devastating display of batting and running which swung the game in our favour – well done to both boys. This left the rapidly improving Hamish (3 not out) and Cameron (2 not out) to get us home. In 12 overs. With time available James (7) including a lovely cover driven boundary, Alex (17not out) Henry (14 not out) Jae (5 not out) and Charlie (1 not out) and Callum all got some time in the middle.
This was a good display against a strong team, well done.
Player of the Day – for a tremendous exhibition of fielding including a direct hit run out and multiple saves, Cam is the player of the day.
