Brendan McDonald joins South Australian Squad
Brendan saying goodbye to the Stags with thanks
After being on the fringe of selection for the NSW Squad and with NSW limiting their contracts this coming season due to the inclusion of players coming off Australian contracts, Brendan has been offered a position within the South Australian Squad for two years. He will be leaving in the next few weeks to join an Adelaide club and make a push for first class selection with South Australia. He also received an expression of interest from Tasmania.
The offer to be part of their 25 man squad and the positive welcome he received from the South Australian players and officials during a recent visit to Adelaide convinced Brendan this was the right move for him and no doubt all of the Gordon cricket community will wish him the very best.
Brendan has been an excellent clubman and player for Gordon and has worked very hard on his game and always been willing to participate in club activities during his 5 years with the club which included a year as Club Captain. His enthusiasm for the game and for the Gordon Club has been infectious and we will all miss him. The role he has played in encouraging his team mates has been exceptional and the dressing room certainly won’t be the same without him.
His 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons were no doubt his best for the club taking 43 and 47 wickets respectively and he will be looking to take that form into his performances in Adelaide. As a squad member Brendan will able to play in the Australia Cup 2nd XI competition and press for further selection. The South Australians are starting their preparation early this season as they have qualified for the Champions League T20 competition in India in September, won last year by NSW.
Brendan would like to thank everyone in the Gordon Club for their support over the five years and naturally looks forward to catching up with everyone when in Sydney.
This is a big move for Brendan’s career prospects and as a young man looking to progress to higher honours, we know he will give it a 110% effort, just like he has for Gordon over the years.
Thanks Bmac, for being part of the Gordon Club and contributing so well to its 105 year history. Whatever happens in the future, you would always be welcome back and we will be watching your progress with keen interest.
